Return of the Trench Coat

By November 14, 2010 No Comments

Looking for the right jacket to carry you into 2011? If so, look no further than the trench coat. This classic has a lasting popularity, whether in the U.S. or the UK. It’s been worn by some of the hottest celebrities and because they have stood the test of time for so long, vintage trench coats are always a great investment, too. They’re professional when needed, casual when the occasion calls for it. Loads of comfort and even more variety, the traditional trench coat can be found in a number of styles, colors and fits. This season, the focus is on the quality of the fabrics. Softer microfibers rule the day as they’re a good investment, wear well and are easy to launder.

The traditional long trench coat is best worn loose and hitting the knee. Choose your coat so that the sleeves fall to the top of your hand and a double breasted design is always a sure thing. The best designers, if you follow the European fashion shows, seem to have a trench coat in their releases. Clearly, this design has come full circle once again and promises to be not only the sure thing for fall and winter, but we’re expecting these great looks to remain right on through the spring and summer seasons of 2011.

One new trend we’ve found is the more formal look of the topcoat; it’s elegant and refined. Similar to the trench coat, these provide a closer fit and a tailored look. If it’s a top coat you’re looking for, go for one that fits well in the shoulders and lacks the more relaxed “hanging” of the trench. These should fall five inches above the knee for the best look. Choose a top coat that’s made of quality fabrics and always be sure it matches the trousers you’re wearing for the occasion.

If you’re a big fan of the trench coat like we are, you’re just as happy to see it return on the scene. With more design labels getting in on the action, we’re afforded more choices than ever before.
